It's so ridiculous when people warn for femslash in general and especially on an all femslash com. Do you warn for het? Warning: Straight people being straight. *facepalm*
You know...I think people use warnings as a catch all for things that sometimes just need to be notes. I mean, if I'm posting a piece to mostly femslash specific comms and there's some het in it as well, I'll note that because some people are going to go apeshit being surprised by that. But I'm not going to warn that there might be some OMG!PENIS. *sigh* Some penises need a warning (like Shawn). Hell, some vaginas might too, but can we please stop warning for femslash? It's ridiculous.
I am still not over being annoyed at the time I got a review complaining about surprise!femslash in a story. I warn for things that need warning, people. Kissing is not one of those things.
It was at sanctuary_ff on lj. The warning was for nc-17 content, femslash, and kink toys. And I was kinda "bzuh?" about the whole thing. Warn for things that need to be warned for, and be specific about them. "Kink toys" isn't exactly much of a warning. I mean are we warning for dildos or are we warning for knife play or...I could go on.
Yeah, any time I see someone warning for generic kink or toys, the thought that runs through my head is ". . .you really have no idea about the extent of possibilities there, do you?"
I actually have seen warnings for het. Usually by the same fifteen-year-olds (I assume) who also warn for sexytiems, though, so that's less surprising. But you'd have thought the pairing was adequate warning...
I mean...idk...when I go to a femslash specific comm, I might be surprised to find some femslash there! Lol. I think it was someone who doesn't usually write femslash...maybe? The comm was created specifically as a place where it would be okay to post Helen/Ashley incest, and even then, I wouldn't scoff at a warning (even where the pairing lets you know), but for femslash in general (or het or slash or whatever), I wish we could get past that.
I fully admit that I used to warn for femslash. And some of my older disclaimers [I have one created for each fandom, for ease in setting them up more quickly] still have it listed. I really just need to go in and do a complete overhaul on all of my disclaimer docs one of these years...
Ugh. I used to warn for het, femslash, or slash, and then I realized that, well, everyone can look at the pairing and figure it out. It's so easy that way!
